Shameless star Tina Malone has revealed she would love a brother or sister for her baby daughter, Flame, born in December when Tina was 50.
“I’d have another one tomorrow, it’s sheer bliss,” says Tina, who’s just turned 51 and is married to Paul, 31. “I don’t think my husband would because I was quite ill just before the birth, and that was scarier for him than me. But we’ll see if he comes round!”
Tina says that although she developed pre-eclampsia two weeks before Flame’s due date, which led to her having an emergency Caesarean, she breezed through her pregnancy, which is featured in a new documentary, Tina Malone: Pregnant at 50, on TLC. It follows Tina from just after Flame was conceived via IVF, through to the dramatic birth and Tina and Paul’s first few weeks at home with their new baby.
“My IVF surgeon said I’d done better than younger women and I was in the shower eight hours after the Caesarean, walking round within 24 hours feeling fantastic, while girls half my age in the hospital were doubled up. I’ve got energy in abundance.
“In an ideal world, I wouldn’t go, ‘let’s all have a baby at 50’” says Tina, who had her first daughter, Danielle, when she was 18. “And I do think there’s a huge difference between being 50 and 59. But I think it’s all to do with how you are. I was fit, I was healthy, and I didn’t meet the perfect man for me until I was 45.
“My nan, at 55, was wearing a pinny, had curly grey hair and glasses and was in the kitchen cooking with her slippers on, but nans don’t look like that now. 50 is the new 40. My mother is 74, goes to the gym three times a week and looks like Catherine Deneuve!”
