TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 12th October

Would I Lie to You?, 9.30pm, BBC1

Rob Brydon returns to host a 12th run of the hilarious panel show in which captains Lee Mack and David Mitchell team up with celebrity guests to tell tall (or not) tales. Kicking off the series tonight are presenter Debbie McGee, comedian Bob Mortimer, ex-footballer Dion Dublin and comedian Lucy Porter. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, especially when ‘panellist’s pal’ Jonathan appears on set. But which panellist knows Jonathan, and how? Was he a baby Debbie pulled out of a magician’s hat? Did he brew three award-winning beers with Bob… or was he stuck in a car wash with Lee for three hours? Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction… Rating: *****

The Royal Wedding, from 9.25am, ITV

We’re back at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, for more royal nuptials – this time, those of HRH Eugenie of York and Mr Jack Brooksbank. Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford present coverage in a special, extended This Morning, and documentary The Royal Wedding: A Family Celebration airs at 8pm. Will we see any hats to rival the notorious number Beatrice wore to Kate and Wills’ wedding?! Rating: ****

The Big Audition, 9pm, ITV

The jobs up for grabs this week are a children’s TV presenter, a hand model and a ‘John Lennon’ for a Beatles tribute band. Hoping they have the energy to impress a panel of judges from CITV’s Scrambled are three presenting wannabes who have to not only remember their lines, but tell some jokes and cope with the madness of puppet Mr Cuddle Monster. It’s a calmer audition for make-up company Barry M, who need a hand model – sounds easy, but keeping your mitts in tip-top condition can be a time-consuming business. Finally, The Upbeat Beatles are looking for a Lennon with stage presence, musical talent and an authentic accent. Rating: ***
