TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 17th November

Strictly Come Dancing, 6.45pm, BBC1

Gloria Estefan is kicking off tonight’s Tower Ballroom extravaganza in Blackpool with a medley of her greatest hits, accompanied by a stunning pro routine – if that doesn’t get you in the mood for dancing, we don’t know what will! Blackpool always delivers big, bold crowd-pleasing routines as the couples whizz across the huge sprung floor. Everyone wants to put on a show in the spiritual home of ballroom, but one partnership won’t quite do enough to stay in the competition – which pair will be getting the last tram home? Only you can decide… Whatever happens, watch out for Take That on the results show tomorrow night (7.20pm)! Rating: *****

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, 8.10pm, BBC1

Show host Michael McIntyre is ready to inject more silly games, surprises and celebrity guests into your Saturday night as he returns with a fourth, extended series of his Big Show. Filmed once again at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, this week’s opener boasts all of the usual fan favourites. Holly Willoughby gives her mobile phone to Michael for hilarious text game Send to All, Jane from the Wirral gets the surprise of her life in the Midnight Gameshow and 91-year-old David brings the house down as the show’s oldest Unexpected Star. When it comes to variety, fun and surprises Michael certainly hits the spot! Rating: ****

Beck: Without Intent, 9pm, BBC4

A young girl comes home from basketball training to find her mother dead at the bottom of the stairs. There are signs of a struggle in the house, suggesting it wasn’t just a terrible accident. The single mum – Manuela – had a secret identity to protect her from a violent ex-husband who was locked away for beating her half to death. Did he come back to finish the job? Manuela was also seeing a new man, who she thought was Mr Perfect – except he also has a police record for violent behaviour. Meanwhile, Alex starts her new role as squad chief – a challenge for interim boss Steinar, who sees the case very differently. Rating: ****
