TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 1st September

The X Factor, 8pm, ITV

Do not adjust your TV sets… The X Factor has an all-new judging panel as the search begins for Britain’s next big singing sensation. Sitting alongside show boss Simon Cowell this time are pop superstar Robbie Williams, Loose Women panellist – and Robbie’s wife – Ayda Field, and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson. And as the auditions kick off at the SSE Wembley Arena, it seems the panel are settling in nicely. ‘All three of the new judges have had no problem disagreeing with Simon,’ says Dermot O’Leary, who returns as host. ‘It becomes more of a battle on the panel, which is healthier for the show.’ The auditions continue tomorrow. Jonathan Ross Show, 9.15pm, ITV

As the nights draw in, the chat show hosts come into their own. Jonathan Ross’ new series gets off to a raucous start with a lot of comedy talent. From the US, Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish talk about new comedy Night School, with Mel Giedroyc and Rob Beckett adding homegrown chortles. Will Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista be able to keep his end up? Jess Glynne supplies the music. Rating: ****

Impossible Celebrities, 7.35pm, BBC1

This week’s hopefuls include ex-Gogglebox star Rev Kate Bottley and reality star Vicky Pattison as they try to win cash for charity. Host Rick Edwards quips he only needed to Google a couple of them, and as the gentle ribbing continues, the celebs answer multiple choice questions, hoping to avoid answers that can’t possibly be true.
