TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 10th July

How to Build a Time Machine, 9pm, BBC2

Imagine being able to travel back and forth in time – like the Doctor in her TARDIS, only for real, not in a television studio with fancy computer graphics. It’s a pretty mind-blowing concept but time travel isn’t actually impossible, according to the laws of nature. This Horizon documentary meets the scientists at the cutting edge of their field who are continually making progress towards learning how it might be possible to travel through time. It’s all about building wormholes, fully functioning time crystals and manipulating entangled photons (of course) which will let an engineer of the future make sci-fi a reality. Rating: ***

Ackley Bridge, 8pm, C4

The staff and pupils of Ackley Bridge gather to pay tribute to teacher Sami, who was stabbed to death by local drug dealer Khadim. As she mourns the loss of her (secret) lover Sami, English teacher Emma (Liz White) learns the police have failed to track down Khadim. Wanting justice for Sami, Emma decides to take matters into her own hands… Elsewhere, Missy freaks out when Aaron announces that he loves her. Rating: ****

The Rise and Fall of Nokia, 9pm, BBC4

In 1998 Nokia was the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile phones. This film documents how one of the most successful companies in the world collapsed. From a change of ethos and atmosphere at the Finnish firm to the launch of the iPhone in 2007, this is a tale of boom and bust in the most spectacular style. Rating: ***
