TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 13th November

The Young and the Homeless, 10.45pm (times vary), BBC1

A special Children in Need film made by Strictly star Stacey Dooley, investigating the growing and often hidden problem of homelessness among young people. She meets four teens who have nowhere to call home, to find out why it happened, how they cope and what help is out there for them. The majority of young people are homeless because family relations have broken down, which is what happened to Josh, who is now 18. Stacey also meets Cat and Shelby, two teenagers living rough in Manchester, and Millie in Devon who moved out of her family home at just 14. A moving film highlighting the shocking number of young people who don’t have a safe space to call their own. Rating ****

We Are Most Amused and Amazed, 8pm, ITV

Did you know Prince Charles is a member of the Magic Circle? He’s got quite the sense of humour, too, which is why we’re celebrating his 70th birthday with a glittering line-up of comedians and magicians in this variety special. Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller have reunited to host the show, which includes hilarious sets from Sandi Toksvig, Rowan Atkinson and Omid Djalili, as well as breathtaking illusions from Penn & Teller and Dynamo. Luckily for the stewards at the London Palladium, the organisers stopped short of including HRH’s favourite pastime on the bill – there’s no room for a polo team on that stage! Rating: *****

Saluting Dad’s Army, 8pm, GOLD

The entertaining “salute” continues as the sitcom morphs from hit TV series into national treasure. The vicar, verger and air raid warden become more prominent, actor James Beck, aka Private Walker, sadly dies, aged only 44, and the show reaches what is meant to be its final episode as series three ends. But did you know that the 1971 spin-off movie did better box office than Michael Caine’s crime classic Get Carter? Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
