TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Wednesday 1st August

The Real Marigold Hotel, 9pm, BBC1

Nine celebrities of a certain age check into The Real Marigold Hotel for a third series of the silver surfer show. Among the famous faces road- testing retirement in Udaipur are Stephanie Beacham, Susan George, Syd Little, jockey Bob Champion, ex-EastEnder Peter Dean and Krankies double act Ian and Janette Tough. But it’s not long before some of them are struggling with the size of the ants, the scary tuk-tuks or – as in Bob’s case – the Indian food! Meanwhile, Stephanie bursts into tears during a meditation session in an Ashram, and Syd goes green when he sees a chicken being killed for their supper. Fun viewing, but as ever the real star of the show is India. Ratimg: *****

The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, 9pm, ITV

Millie (Rachael Stirling) and Jean (Julie Graham) have just formed their new crime-fighting gang Stateside, but it’s already starting to splinter. They may have pinpointed the location of the serial killer’s next murder, but they never expected the twist: the victim is male, and a friend of Iris’ son. The sight of his body is such a shock, Iris tells her new British friends she wants the quiet life instead – can they convince her to stay and fight for justice? Meanwhile, Millie marches to the police station with a list of possible perpetrators but nobody will take her seriously. Something tells us that Millie will have the last laugh… An entertaining reboot, if you can get past some dodgy American accents. Rating: ****

Animals Behaving Badly, 8pm, BBC1

The boxer crab is a badly behaved crustacean. It lives in the Red Sea, surrounded by bigger predators. So how does it stop itself being eaten? It simply takes hostage a couple of little anemones, which have a powerful sting, and holds them in its claws like boxing gloves to punch any predators in the face! It also starves the anemones so they don’t get too heavy for it to carry – mean and nasty but clever. This funny and informative series comes to an end with the cunning tactics used by animals to survive. There are also car-destroying stone martens in Luxembourg and stinky sloths in Central America.
