TV Times tops picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Tuesday 28th November…

How to Spend It Well at Christmas, 8.00pm, ITV

If you’re panicking about your Christmas shopping, take a deep breath, sip a mulled wine and stick this series on the telly. In this three-parter, Phillip Schofield is about to solve all your problems as he checks out this year’s must-have toys and gadgets, giving us the lowdown on which stocking fillers are worth the cash, and which fads are best ignored. Tonight’s is all about toys, from board games to robots – which ones will your children love and which will be in the bin by New Year? Plus, Jonathan Ross will be popping by to explore this year’s toy trend: unicorns! Hopefully this show will stop us leaving it all till Christmas Eve – again… Rating: ****

The A Word, 9.00pm, BBC1

The A Word

The challenges they’ve faced with Joe made us think that Paul and Alison could weather any storm, but after Paul’s guilty revelation, things get awkward… There’s light relief thanks to Maurice’s ‘birds and the bees’ talk with Ralph, and Eddie’s effort to get Joe to ride his bike without stabilisers. But can Eddie just get back with Nicola and put his girlfriend – and us – out of her misery? Rating: ****

The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds, C4

The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds

Our final visit to the  nursery for now is all about risk-taking. How do the energetic five-year olds cope when things feel a little bit daunting? Young Nathan is brilliant at maths but also very sensitive, and even finds playing ‘goodies and baddies’ a bit much. But friendships can be a very powerful thing and Nathan’s best buddy Ralphy is as brave as they come, which will help when the children get a visit from a rather large eight-legged friend. Also, Daisy needs to take a risk when some new children arrive at the nursery, and outwardly confident Jack and tomboy Miylah take a shine to each other in the playground. Could it be the start of something special? Rating: *****
