Voice winner Andrea to launch debut album

The Voice winner Andrea Begley is releasing her debut album only four months after her triumph on the show in a bid to avoid a repeat of last year’s flop which saw Leanne Mitchell’s album limp to 134 in the charts.

The album, called The Message, features covers of tracks including Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark and Lightning Bolt by Jake Bugg.

Andrea’s coach on the show, Danny O’Donoghue, joined her in the studio to produce the title track which she wrote.

The singer, from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, said: “Danny has been a fantastic source of support to me both throughout the show and beyond it. He has always believed in me and in my songs and it was a total honour and privilege for him to produce one of my own songs for the album. I couldn’t stop smiling while I stood in the studio with him working on the track. I count myself a very lucky person.”

Leanne has complained of being made a ”scapegoat” for the series and said she had no hand in the timing of her record’s release which came out almost a year after the series ended.

Will.i.am – one of the coaches from The Voice – said the record label bore some of the blame, saying they “should be freakin’ embarrassed” and “somebody should get slapped”.

Speaking before the final in June, O’Donoghue said the show had learned from Leanne’s failure and they knew they had to develop a ”game plan very early on” for the winning act.

Andrea’s album is released on October 21.
