He begins in Jamaica where he discovers that his paternal great-grandmother Mabel spent her final years in an asylum after her husband’s affair. Marvin is also stunned to discover that while one of his ancestors was a slave, another was a slave owner… Rating: ****

Classic EastEnders, from 12noon, Drama

Cast your minds back to February 1985, when a brand- new soap called EastEnders hit our screens. From today, Drama is showing memorable early episodes in weekday double bills, beginning with the very first one, in which Den, Ali and Arthur break into Reg Cox’s flat and Leslie Grantham’s Den utters the immortal line: ‘Cor, stinks in ’ere, dunnit?’ Then it’s episode two, with Den and Angie celebrating their anniversary – hmmm… Rating: ****

Saving Poundstretcher, 9pm, C4

Whether you’re after pet food, shaving foam or a new pair of socks, Poundstretcher has probably got some of the best deals on the high street. But the discount store, which has over 400 outlets across the UK, has hit hard times and now owner Aziz Tayub is hiring his former rival, Poundworld founder Chris Edwards, to help him save the flagging business. The two tycoons don’t always see eye to eye and, as this three-part series progresses, there are sure to be some boardroom battles. But it’s staff like Sue, on the shop floor in Walkden, who genuinely seem to care for their store, that we really empathise with. Rating: ****
