TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 22nd September

Strictly Come Dancing, 6.15pm, BBC1

We’ve been talking about this year’s contestants for weeks, but we’ve barely seen them actually dance. Tonight, it’s showtime, and the newly introduced couples put their best foot forward in a bid to impress the judges in the first live episode. Luckily, nobody goes home this weekend, but first impressions count, as scores will be carried over to next week, and fans will already be deciding who to vote for. Spare a thought for poor Lauren Steadman, who spent most of the training period in Australia at the World Triathlon Championships – fingers crossed her dance partner AJ has worked his magic with an easy but impressive routine! Rating: *****

Killing Eve, 9.25pm, BBC1

After being fired by MI5 for the debacle at the hospital in last week’s opener, agent Eve Polastri (Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh) is stunned when MI6 boss Carolyn Martens (Harry Potter’s Fiona Shaw) presents her with a golden job opportunity – she wants Eve to head up a secret, off-the-books department with one aim: to catch ruthless female assassin Villanelle (Doctor Foster’s Jodie Comer). Meanwhile, psycho-killer Villanelle’s handler Konstantin (The Bridge’s Kim Bodnia) reveals he’s learnt Eve is on to her, and Villanelle has soon worked out that she and Eve have already crossed paths. Are they about to meet again very soon? With the drama heating up now, we can’t wait for next week! Rating: ****

Jonathan Ross Show, 9.50pm, ITV
