TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Monday 20th November including the return of…

Would I Lie to You?, 8.30pm, BBC1

Dishonesty is the best policy as Rob Brydon returns to host TV’s most consistently funny panel show in WILTY’s tenth anniversary year. ‘Don’t let me down, you’ve had years of practice,’ quips team captain Lee Mack, as former Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls attempts to tell a possibly tall story. Later, while teammate Jo Brand disapprovingly shakes her head, the duo eagerly ask pregnant ex-Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt to prove she can still do the splits as they consider her gymnastic car repair story. David Baddiel, who may or may not have once used a ‘chin gym’, completes David Mitchell’s team in this pleasingly rib-tickling opener to the new series. Rating: ****

Elizabeth & Philip: Love and Duty, 9.00pm, BBC1

Kirsty Young presents this warm-hearted look at the relationship of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. With today marking their 70th wedding anniversary, Kirsty returns to the very place where they first met and, it is said, the young Princess Elizabeth fell head over heels for the dashing Lieutenant Mountbatten, as Philip was then known. One of the nicest aspects of this film is the contribution from three other couples who also married in 1947. When asked the secret of a long-lasting marriage, one of them, Stanley, replies: ‘True love, trust and a lot of bleeding patience’. To which his wife, Dolly, adds: ‘and for once I agree with him!’ Rating: ****

Nigella: At My Table, 8.30pm, BBC2

Nigella at my table

Ms Lawson prepares more easy to make comfort food for dining solo and entertaining. After kickstarting her day with a hearty fried-bread and tomato hash, she turns her attention to entertaining vegan guests. Nigella says it’s like ‘painting with a fresh palette’ as she prepares a butternut squash and sweet potato curry, followed by egg-free lemon tendercake and blueberry compote. Later, she takes a moment to sing the praises of the anchovy, which she calls ‘the bacon of the sea’! Rating: ****
