ITV police drama Whitechapel is no more, according to the show’s star Rupert Penry-Jones.
The actor – who plays DI Joseph Chandler in show – revealed the news to his followers on Twitter, telling them: “That’s all folks.”
He added: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone but ITV don’t want any more Whitechapel. No not joking I am afraid.”
However he promised fans he would soon be back for another series of BBC One drama Silk – as well as promising he had ‘something amazing’ in the pipeline.
The actor also said: “For those who are sad about the end of Whitechapel you can always let @ITV know ;( “
The series, set in London’s East End, ran for four series from 2009-2013 and had in the past pulled in around 8m viewers – but more recently had halved its audience.
Its most recent series was aired this autumn.
