Amelia Lily has finished in third place in The The X Factor 2011, after being voted off the show during Saturday night’s final.

The 17-year-old lost out after receiving the lowest number of public votes after the phonelines were frozen following Saturday’s performances.

The result means that Marcus Collins and Little Mix will compete in the second half of the final on Sunday in a bid to land that coveted recording contract.

Amelia – who was originally voted out in the first week but was voted back in by the public following Frankie Cocozza’s departure – admitted she was happy to have made it as far as she did.

“Can I just say thank you to everyone who voted me back into the competition,” she said. “My ambition was to get to the final and I did it, so thank you and you have not heard the last of Amelia Lily.”

Mentor Kelly Rowland, meanwhile, also paid tribute to Amelia, “She’s the best vocalist here. I’m so proud of her, she’s a star.”

Earlier in the show Amelia had performed the Christina Aguilera song Ain’t No Other Man, and had also sung the Tina Turner classic River Deep Mountain High with Kelly, as each of the remaining finalists duetted with their mentors.

The result now means that either Tulisa or Gary Barlow will be this year’s winning judge.

The phonelines were re-opened on Saturday night after the result had been announced, with a further two-hour show on Sunday which will determine the series winner.
