X Factor charity single tops charts

The X Factor finalists have gone straight to number one in the UK charts with this year’s charity single Wishing On A Star.

The track, which also features former finalists One Direction and JLS, features all of 2011’s final acts except for Frankie Cocozza, who was left off the single after being axed from the show last month.

Proceeds from this year’s single go to the children’s charity Together For Short Lives, which aims to improve the quality of life for youngsters suffering life-threatening or terminal illnesses.

And the song prevented another former X Factor finalist, Olly Murs, from reaching the top spot with his latest single Dance With Me Tonight.

That track spent a second week at number two after being kept off the number one position last weekend by Rihanna’s We Found Love.

However there was better news for Olly in the album chart, where his second long-player In Case You Didn’t know went straight in at number one.

It is the fourth year running that the X Factor finalists have recorded a special single in aid of charity, with all their previous efforts also topping the charts.
