The panel is taking shape for this year’s X Factor with Cheryl Cole confirmed to make a return alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh.

Now the Mirror reports that show bosses are keen to bring in Black Eyed Peas star Fergie as fourth judge to complete the line-up.

Their source said: “It’s not a done deal just yet but things have been positive. Both sides are keen to move things forward and people at the show and ITV are excited at the prospect of having Fergie.

“She brings a lot to the show and her success globally with The Black Eyed Peas and her solo albums obviously speaks for itself. On top of that, she looks fantastic and fans love the glamour of the live shows.”

The appointment would also prove popular with Cheryl, who was promised by Simon she would not have to sit alongside anyone she didn’t approve of. Cheryl and Fergie have become buddies through their mutual friend, a judge on The Voice and also a member of Black Eyed Peas.
