The X Factor’s boot camp stage is set to be livened up considerably ths year, as the judges join Simon Cowell on his yacht to discuss which acts should proceed.
The mogul has barely been seen in the show for the past two series, since leaving the panel to head up the US version of X Factor.
However The Sun reports that this year he plans to play a more active role – starting with the summit meeting, while he is on holiday on his yacht, to review the boot camp hopefuls.
Simon will also take the opportunity to personally tell Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh which categories they will be mentoring – instead of breaking the news by phone.
“Simon wanted to be involved on screen this year,” a source told the paper.
“We originally intended to do the Boot Camp stage in Miami and he would likely have had a much bigger role. But that plan didn’t work out so it will again take place at Wembley Arena next month.”
Recent reports have also suggested that Simon may appear as a guest judge during the live finals, passing his verdict on the acts via a satellite link-up.
However he has ruled out a return to the panel due to schedule clashes with the US version of the show, also due to return this autumn.
The X Factor is due to return to screens in August.
