X Factor: Tamera triumphs in the quarter-final

She might be the favourite for elimination due to her habit of forgetting her lyrics – but Tamera Foster made a bold bid for the X Factor semi-finals on Saturday night with two word-perfect performances.

The teenage singer impressed both judges and audience with her renditions of Rihanna’s We Found Love – her personal choice of song – and the public’s choice of the Roberta Flack ballad The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

And her previous mistakes appeared to be both forgiven and forgotten as the judges raved about her two performances.

“That was so convincing and so emotional,” Louis Walsh said of her second performance, adding: “You came back fighting.”

Gary Barlow, meanwhile, added: “If we fast forward five years I think you may be the most successful contestant this year…you have got a massive career ahead of you.”

Saturday was also a good night for Luke Friend and Sam Bailey- with Luke delivering his take on Skinny Love and Mumford and Sons’ I Will Wait, while Sam Bailey took on Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know and the Emeli Sande ballad Clown.

Louis called Luke “a breath of fresh air” following the Mumford song, with Nicole adding: “This is your week my friend!”

The former Pussycat Doll also found herself overcome with emotion following Sam’s performance of Clown, telling her “I have just one word – astounding”.

And her mentor Sharon Osbourne summed up the thoughts of many when she told her: “It’s just unbelievable, there is no song you cannot sing.”

Nicholas MacDonald and Rough Copy also performed on Saturday night’s show in their bid for the X Factor semi-final, with one more act leaving the competition on Sunday night.
