The X Factor enjoyed a rise in its ratings for this weekend’s big band themed show – but it still wasn’t enough to overtake Strictly Come Dancing.
According to overnight figures Saturday’s show pulled in an average audience of 8.2m between 8pm and 9.35pm – giving it an increase of 570,000 viewers.
Meanwhile the audience peaked at 9.4m, giving the series its best viewing figures for over a month.
However it did not even come close to matching the audience for Strictly, which leapt to a new series high of 10.3m.
The peak viewing figure for Saturday’s show, which aired before The X Factor at 6.30pm – was even more impressive, soaring to the 11.3m mark.
Saturday’s Strictly saw just nine couples bidding to remain in the competition – and win the chance to perform in Blackpool next weekend – after Natalie Gumede collapsed during rehearsals and pulled out of the show.
The series has consistently beaten The X Factor in the ratings, despite the ITV show’s attempts to boost figures with such twists as the ‘flash vote’ – which is showing no signs of returning after being dropped last weekend.
