Katie Waissel is looking forward to performing live on the X Factor at the weekend despite the bookies making her favourite to be booted off the show.

The 24-year-old said criticism of her performance at the Judge’s Houses stage, where she got through despite bursting into tears while singing, only spurred her on.

She said: “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course but if anything it has really inspired me to show the public this weekend why we are here, why I am here.”

Katie is currently 4-1 favourite to be the first contestant kicked off the show with bookmakers Betfair.

She said her tearful performance was partly down to her choice of song, the Charlie Chaplin number Smile, saying: “It was an emotional song for me. It was mine and my grandpa’s song without going into too much and we are only human.”

Cher Lloyd, another of judge Cheryl Cole’s picks, was also controversial, with the 17-year-old getting through despite breaking down during her performance.

But the teenager promised that viewers would see a different side of her on Saturday and said she was “completely tip-top” now.

She said: “It is very unfortunate that I was ill at that time but there is nothing I can do about it now and hopefully come Saturday people will think ‘Oh, actually, she has picked herself up’ and that is what I’m going to do because I’m a fighter.”

She laughed off claims she was just a copy of her mentor Cheryl, saying: “I don’t have to try and be different to her because I’m my own person and I dress how I want to dress.”

The third of the girls – Rebecca Ferguson – revealed her two young children would come to the weekend show, saying: “I ring them every morning and every night and I know I’ve just got to concentrate and at the end there will be something good hopefully.”

The first of The X Factor live shows start on Saturday, October 9.
