*Britain’s Got Talent returns on Saturday, April 12 at 7.15pm on ITV*
The mega-popular BGT returns for its eighth series, presented by the nation’s favourite duo Ant and Dec. Across Britain, acts perform for a place in the live finals, with hopes of winning the grand prize of £250,000 and an opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
The all-star judging panel returns with superstar Simon Cowell, his loving side-kick David Walliams, actress Amanda Holden and former Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon.
The audition stage has budding acts perform in front of live studio audiences across the country: London, Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham, and for the first time this year, Belfast. However, the audience is the least of their worries as each judge is equipped with their infamous buzzer – if all are pressed, the act is stopped!
45 acts make it to one of the five live semi-finals. This year, however, brings the introduction of the Golden Buzzer. Each judge gets one press to fast-track an act to the live semi-finals. Dec is a fan of the Buzzer, saying ‘it’s a beautiful moment on stage when the buzzer’s pressed and the audience go wild and get right behind the act’.
Acts then face the public vote who choose one winner to proceed to the Grand Final, while the judges also choose a finalist from the two runners-up.
Only 10 survive to the Finals, facing one last performance and public vote, until the best act is voted winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2014.
With past winners ranging from an opera singer to a dancing dog, who will rise to the challenge and charm the nation this year?
The Britain’s Got Talent winners since the show began in 2007 are:
2012: Ashleigh and Pudsey
2011: Jai McDowall
2008: George Sampson
2007: Paul Potts
