Jo Masters has a traumatic start to life as a uniformed sergeant when she’s called out to an aggravated burglary at a family home.
When she arrives, she finds an unconscious man, John Baker, being cradled by his wife Tanisha as their son Ian looks on in horror.
Jo immediately calls CID at Sun Hill while PC Leon Taylor prepares to attend to Baker…
After desperately searching for signs of life, Leon pronounces Baker dead at the scene.
Tanisha is too stunned to speak, but her son explains that an intruder broke into the house, attacked his dad, and then fled.
But why are both Tanisha and Ian’s clothes bloodstained?
DI Neil Manson, DC Grace Dasari and DS Max Carter arrive and are told by crime scene examiner Eddie Olosunje that the murder weapon is missing.
Surveying the scene, Eddie talks the detectives through his findings…
…telling Neil and Max he’s convinced that whoever carried out the attack would have ended up covered in blood.
As the investigation gets underway, it emerges that Baker had been having an affair with a woman called Jenny (played by guest star Gabrielle Glaister), who is brought into Sun Hill for questioning.
Jenny tells Grace and Jo that Baker had moved in with her days before his death. But on the night he was killed, the pair had rowed and he had gone back to his family.
Later, Max and Grace quiz Ian, who admits that his mother knew about his dad’s affair, but feared his drunken rages…
He then drops a bombshell that stuns the detectives and seems to wrap up the case.
Max thinks so and wants to press charges immediately. Grace, however, isn’t sure the case is cut and dried and accuses Max of showing his prejudice. The disagreement quickly escalates into a row…
…and it’s left to Neil Manson to restore order. But just who is responsible for Baker’s brutal murder? Find out on The Bill on Thursday, 28 January (not STV).
