Little Mix have been crowned X Factor 2011 champions following a closely-fought final against Marcus Collins – and in doing so have become the first group ever to win the series
Little Mix and Marcus joined the other former finalists on stage for the opening medley on Sunday night’s show
Past contestants returning to the stage included Craig Colton
Janet Devlin also put in an appearance
And the other bands returned to the show including The Risk
There was also a surprise for the viewers in the shape of Goldie Cheung – who had previously made the finals but quit before the live shows began
Marcus started off Sunday’s final reprising Higher and Higher, one of his songs from earlier in the series – and once again the judges loved it
Little Mix chose to reprise the En Vogue song Don’t Let Go
The second song of the night from the finalists was a festive one – and Marcus got the ball rolling with the Wham classic Last Christmas
The judges loved Little Mix’s version of Silent Night which featured solos from all of the girls
Westlife took to the X Factor stage to perform What About Now, backed by a montage of highlights from this year’s series
Then it was time for the finalists to perform their versions of the winner’s single – the Damien Rice song Cannonball. First in the hot seat was Marcus
Then Little Mix tackled the song, once again featuring solos from all of the girls
As the time to vote ticked away, rock superstars Coldplay provided a musical interlude
And then it was time for the moment of truth – but would the winners be Little Mix….
….or would Marcus win that all important record contract?
It’s Little Mix! And the band officially made history by not only becoming the first group ever to win but by becoming the show’s most successful girl group ever
Members of the band were overcome with emotion at the news – as was their mentor Tulisa
And some of them appeared speechless
Marcus remained smiling throughout, congratulating the girls on their win and praising them for having worked so hard
They went on to reprise their version of Cannonball – which is now their debut single
…but were quickly overcome by other finalists who joined them onstage to celebrate as the series drew to a close. And so the sun sets on another X Factor. See you all in 2012….
